The Runnin’ Bulldogs were lead by sophomore Jasmine Dale and senior Brianna Dillard as they both posted double-digit points, Dale with a team high of 15 points and Dillard with 12. Despite the effort the Runnin’ Bulldogs fell to the Lady Eagle of Winthrop 65-55.
Gardner-Webb drops to 1-11 in the Big South Conference and 2-20 overall this season.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs took the first lead in the game as they were the first to post numbers on the scoreboard courtesy of sophomore Dale. However, the Lady Eagles were quick to respond with 15 points of their own as they took the lead 15-4.
As the final minutes of the first half were ticking away freshman Mayhana Dunovant was fouled and made both of her free throws, while Dillard and Dale both contributed points. Dillard with a lay-up and Dale with a three-pointer helping the Runnin’ Bulldogs to cut Winthrop’s lead to only eight points entering the second half of play.
Both teams started the second half with a struggle to post points, as the Lady Eagles managed to only keep their lead by 10. The Runnin’ Bulldogs found themselves down by four as Dale and Dillard scored seven straight points.
Although the Ruunin’ Bulldogs crept within four points of the Lady Eagles they would never take the lead in the second half falling to Winthrop by a margin of 10.
Gardner-Webb will return home Wednesday, February 22, at 7 pm as they will host another Big South Conference opponent Presbyterian College.
