The Runnin’ Bulldogs baseball team picked up an 8-2 win Friday night over the Air Force at John Henry Moss Stadium to push the record up 6-3.

Stand-out starter, Brock Wilson, allowed just two hits in a little over 6 innings to strike out three and walk three.  The Big Island, Virginia native pitched 83 and dropped his overall E.R.A. down to 1.17 after three starts this season.  After 14.1 innings, Wilson has not had one run earned.

The Battin’ Bulldogs did their part to back up their pitcher and worked out ten hits, thanks to a few leaders in the box.  Scott Johnson went 2-5 with a double and an RBI while catcher John Harris hit 2-4, picked up a home run, an RBI and an extra 2 runs. Adam McFarland also went 2-4 with a triple, a run, and 3 runners batted in.

In the second inning, Harris put the Bulldogs up over the Falcons with a home run and in the third, first baseman  Dusty Quattlebaum sent Benji Jackson in to put the lead up 2-0.

Scott Coleman then put the score up 3-0 sending in Johnson on an Air Force error to leave McFarland with an RBI single to make the lead 4-0.

The Falcons took advantage of Gardner-Webb’s standstill and closed the gap in the fourth picking up to runs; the score was 4-2.

After Wilson had sat eight Air Force batters down on the bench, righty Jeff Howell came out on the mound to get out of the inning with bases loaded and keep Gardner-Webb up 4-2.

Gardner-Webb also had hits from Jackson, who went 1-for-4 with a triple and a run, Quattlebaum, batting 1-for-3, had an RBI and a run, and freshman  Brantley Smith who went 1-for-4 grabbed an RBI and a run and Brad Collins batted 1-for-3.

Freshman lefty Stephen Gilmore closed out the game with a strike out to seal a hard fought win over the Air Force.

The Bulldogs battle again Valparaiso this Saturday at 2 p.m.  Valpo is currently 3-3.
