A new restaurant hits the town of Boiling Springs with a big bang.  Campus Pizzeria, a Greek and Italian style restaurant, has caused quite the stir on Gardner-Webb’s campus.

“We officially opened Wednesday, April 15,” said Eve Lignos, one of the floor managers of Campus Pizzeria. The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and then Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The tables and booths have been filled many nights since the grand opening. Lignos described business as, “So far, so good.”

“My uncle, John Diakolios, used to go to Gardner-Webb and we knew that a majority of our customers would be from the college,” said Anna Tsambounieris, another floor manager.

She and her uncle were talking on the phone one day discussing possible names for the new restaurants and Diakolios mentioned Campus Pizzeria, since the location would be literally right across the road from Gardner-Webb.

They have a variety of Greek and Italian food to offer. Specialty pizzas, wings, burgers, subs, salads, baked lasagna, and calzones are just a few to mention. “All of our wing sauce, marinara sauce, our dough and desserts are homemade,” said Tsambounieris.

Their slogan states, “You’ve had the rest, now enjoy the best!” Campus Pizzeria prepares their food and cooks it to order.

Campus Pizzeria stands out from other restaurants by their names of menu items. “The [names of] items on our menu are things about Gardner-Webb,” said Tsambounieris.  For example, there is a specialty pizza called “The Bulldog” which includes pepperoni, ham, bacon, sausage, ground beef, pizza sauce and mozzarella.

Others specialty pizza names are the Dorm Special, The Winnings Score, Study Hall, Professor and Campus; all of which have different combinations of toppings.

The food, though, is not the only thing they take pride in. Campus Pizzeria is a family owned and operated restaurant. Louie Tsambounieris is Anna Tsambounieris’ uncle.

“We are a very close family,” said Tsambounieris. She explained how you have to work hard as a family to operate a restaurant and try not to get on each other’s nerves.

The owner of Campus Pizzeria, Louie Tsambounieris, is Anna’s uncle. He also owns the popular breakfast joint Snack Shop that sits adjacent to each other.
