Meet Miss GWU Pageant Contestant Alyssa-Caroline Burnette

Alyssa-Caroline Burnette - Miss GWU Pageant Contestant

By Megan Hartman

It’s time to meet junior transfer student Alyssa-Caroline Burnette from Asheville, NC. She originally wasn’t planning on coming to Gardner-Webb, but ever since she’s transferred has loved every second of it. This is her first time competing in the Miss GWU Pageant.

Alyssa-Caroline Burnette - Miss GWU Pageant ContestantWhat motivated you to participate in the Miss GWU Pageant?

I wanted to be a part of the Miss GWU Pageant because I love my university, I love pageants, and I’m thrilled to think of being chosen as the representative for Gardner-Webb.

What do you think makes you a good contestant?
I think I’m a good contestant for the pageant because I’m passionate about Gardner-Webb and helping others to see what an amazing school it is. I’m already very active in the campus community and in encouraging high-school students to consider Gardner-Webb, so being Miss GWU would only give me a better platform to do that.

What has been your favorite part of the pageant process so far?
Thus far, I’ve really loved working on the choreography for our opening number and meeting the other awesome girls who are participating in this pageant. Everyone is so beautiful, inside and out, and I’m so glad I get to work with them!

What talent are you planning on showcasing during the pageant?
For my talent, I will be performing a dramatic recitation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven.

What are you looking forward to the most?
I’m really looking forward to my interview with the judges and having an opportunity to talk about my platform. I’ve put a lot of love and work into it and I’m excited to show others what I’ve been working on!

Check back with us to meet a new Miss GWU Candidate each day leading up to the pageant! The pageant will take place in the Dover Theatre, on April 2, at 3:00 p.m.
