It is that time of year once again; tax filing season is on the horizon. Every employed person has to file their taxes and there is no way to avoid them without facing harsh consequences. So in order to help people in the local community get ready for the upcoming tax season Dr. Denise Smith, Associate Professor of Business, is supplying free tax preparation for students, staff and faculty that make less than $60,000 a year.

Smith said, “This is the 9th year we have provided this service, the GWU Enactus team sponsors this. Last year we assisted over 100 people with their taxes. We also train people how to prepare taxes, and need more volunteers to learn and help us. I provide the IRS training that is mostly online.”

On average, when a person files their taxes by a professional, prices can range from $9.99 to $100, depending on the company and person.

“This is a great way for students to get their volunteer hours and learn something that will help themselves and save them money for the rest of their lives,” said Smith

This is a class that will be offered in room 107 of the Hamrick Building on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting January 20 through April 16.
