For any college or university, any member of faculty with the rank of professor, associate professor, or assistant professor, may be granted a sabbatical leave of absence with pay, for the pursuit of study or research.
According to Gardner-Webb’s Faculty Handbook, “Sabbatical leave is available to full-time faculty of Gardner-Webb University. Applicants need to have completed five years of full-time faculty service at Gardner-Webb University before the sabbatical begins.”
Bob Carey, Chair of the Communication and New Media Department, is doing a sabbatical project on travel by way of train. He will be taking a three week trip around America on Amtrak.
He has created a blog entitled, “Great American Railroad Adventure”, to keep track of all his research. According to Carey’s blog, “While on this trip, I will be attending the Southwestern Photojournalism Conference in Ft. Worth, Texas and working with a student seminar, sharing my planning and experience of taking on a personal project like this.”
Carey will be using the hashtag #gara15 on social media sites such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, YouTube, and Vimeo. Follow his journey on his blog GARA15.com or any of the social media websites.
