The Communication and New Media Department at GWU has announced that it will have it’s first academic honor society, “Lambda Pi Eta,” available to students within the department this year.

There has never been an honor society for communication students to partake in until this year.

“I think the idea was really encouraged by the possibility of having representation of the communications society on campus,” said Emily DeVries, one of the presiding officers of the honor society.

Collin Helms, another officer, was challenged in his Public Relations Techniques class to create a campaign that would develop throughout the semester.

“I personally presented us working on a Honor Society because several of the other departments on campus have one and I felt that we needed one as well,” said Helms.

There will be requirements to be a member, and those will be specified when the society officially begins. The honor society hopes to have an interest meeting Wednesday, September 17th at 4pm in room CSH104 to further explain the purpose of Lambda Pi Eta.

The Department of Communication Studies and New Media hopes that this honor society will bring new interest for future students at Gardner-Webb.

“Having a society is not only a perk for our students but it is also something great for prospective communication majors to know about as they look into our program,” said Helms.
