Garner-Webb Senior, Delton Barnes, has goals to produce professionals within the SGA. Being President of the Student Government Association (SGA) allows him to oversee board members. Barnes carries concerns to administration from the SGA counsel and students. He is the face of the government.

His goals for this year’s SGA are to produce professional development within the association. Also to see the committees be more effective than they have been. He wants to keep the momentum going forward in to this year.

“SGA now has a better reputation on campus than my freshman year. We are more effective than my freshman year and I want to see that culture,” said Barnes.

He joined SGA his freshman year as a senator. Then his sophomore year, he was the executive treasurer where he controlled the money flow. Moving on to his junior year as Vice President where he helped to make decisions.

He found his way into the government when his roommate freshman year was running for president. He thought it would be a good way to meet new people and be involved.

“I thought yea, that would be fun. I will just be a freshman senator. See what it’s about and meet the people. I ended up winning and it ended up really mattering to me,” said Barnes.

One of his favorite moments in his career through SGA was when they ratified a new constitution his junior year. What it did was reduce the amount of senators; which made the government go from 24 to 18 positions. It helped to increase the productivity of the committees.

Barnes is from Conyers, Georgia. Which is home of Holly Hunter, a famous actress, who has played roles in movies like “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and “The Incredible.” It is also the home of the Georgia International Horse Park where the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games were held.

One of his favorite hobbies is golf. One golf course he plans to play on is Sawgrass, in Jacksonville, Florida. He is also a lover of Greek, he enjoys studying their culture.

In May 2015 Barnes will be heading to University of Georgia School of Law to earn his juridical doctorate. Once he is done with law school he plans to work in juvenile delinquency defense and help troubled youth. He also wants to be a senator, governor and then President of the United States.
