The play is called, \u201c#8\u201d originally written by Jean Battlo.<\/p>\n<p>The production of the play will be directed by New York director Dr. Bill Martin. Martin has had previous experience with Gardner-Webb, as he also directed \u201cIs He Dead?\u201d in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJean Battlo\u2019s play \u201c#8\u201d is a Holocaust love story. In an unnamed eastern European country in 1939 the Stein family is faced with difficult choices. The family&#8217;s only way out of the country is in the back of a grocery truck. Their place on the truck is insured when Moshe draws the number eight in a lottery. But some unexpected twists alter the landscape all the way to the end of this intense drama,\u201d said GWU Theater Department.<\/p>\n<p>The cast includes four adults (2 male, 2 female) and two children (one young teenage boy, one younger girl). The Theater Department would like to have a boy that can play a violin.<\/p>\n<p>Students auditioning should prepare a 60 second monologue.\u00a0 Scripts are available for perusal at the Gardner-Webb University Library and at the Theatre Department in the Communications Building.<\/p>\n<p>The auditions will be held at the Millennium Playhouse, March 16- 17, at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>by Ellen Laws The Department of Theatre Arts has announced auditions for a stirring drama, set in Poland in 1939 as the Nazis invade.
