They traveled to the construction site on Saturday, March 28, to complete various tasks.

“Some of the ladies wiped off shelving units, swept the floors, and dry mopped the walls,” said Sister’s Ministry coordinator, Katie Hudson. The building will be used as a counseling and resource center for women with unplanned pregnancies.

Matt Holland, the executive director for the Cleveland County Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC), gave them a tour of the facility. He also gave step-by-step virtual rehearsal of how the center would provide for the women.

On the Cleveland County PRC’s website it states, “The Pregnancy Resource Center of Cleveland County, Inc. is a locally organized and financed non-profit Christian ministry. All of our services are offered free of charge. This is only possible because of the generosity of individuals, churches and businesses in our community that are concerned about life.”

Holland has been involved with the Cleveland County PRC for 18 years. “The mission statement for the Pregnancy Resource Center is to proclaim the sanctity of human life and the gospel of Jesus,” said Holland. They have helped numerous women in Cleveland County and provided options when the women have felt hopeless.

Amanda Collins, a freshman at GWU and member of the Sister’s Ministry, has found a passion in working with the PRC. She first volunteered with Walk for Life, a ministry of the PRC.

“I felt a call toward working with the Pro-Life Movement, but not in a political sense,” said Collins. “I was looking for something to do with my time as a freshman.”

With volunteering with the PRC, Collins has been exposed to many different stories. “Hearing these women’s stories and how even though they maybe going through a pregnancy, they are strong and get through it,” she said.

The Sister’s Ministry is always looking for ways to help the community. “We already had a connection with the PRC and they actually contacted us to help at the new facility and we were very excited that they asked us to help,” said Hudson.

They hope to have the center finished by the end of June. “We have a target date of June, 30,” said Holland. The exterior of the building has been completed and they have just completed the drywall on the interior.

By Jonelle Bobak The Gardner-Webb Sister’s Ministry assisted in building the brand new Pregnancy Resource Center of Cleveland County.
