GWU-Today interviewed each candidate, starting with those running for student body president, the only contested campaign.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eli Hardin<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3293\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3293\" style=\"width: 213px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/eli-e1490671108732.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3293\" src=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/eli-e1490671108732-300x281.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"213\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/eli-e1490671108732-300x281.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/eli-e1490671108732-768x719.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/eli-e1490671108732-1024x958.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/eli-e1490671108732.jpg 1061w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3293\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Junior Eli Hardin, a Political Science major\/ Biblical Studies minor from Boiling Springs, N.C.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Eli Hardin hopes to be elected student body president to have the chance to give back to the university community in which he has grown up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Gardner-Webb] has always been a part of me,\u201d Hardin said. \u201cI would like to use the knowledge and connections I have gained, even before my time as a student, to further the causes of other students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hardin enjoys the small size of the university, which allows him to form relationships with various individuals on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love that I can knock on my professors\u2019 doors at any time and have a conversation about class or even just life,\u201d said Hardin. \u201cThe connections made with staff members on a daily basis are lasting as well, even after I graduate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The small campus has also allowed Hardin to form close bonds with his fellow students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have the opportunity to make friendships through classes and campus organizations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hardin believes that his reliability, dedication and determination to listen to students will make him an ideal candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have faithfully attended SGA meetings, and consider myself to be open to all students,\u201d said Hardin. \u201cI try to listen to the issues that the students have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Hardin, he is ready to put his full effort into the role of student body. He believes that his connections to administrative officials, new and established, will help him to accomplish the needs of students at Gardner-Webb.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are willing to listen,\u201d he said. \u201cWilling to work for the concerns of students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jake Kennedy<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3294\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3294\" style=\"width: 173px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/jake.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3294\" src=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/jake.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"173\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3294\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Junior Jake Kennedy, a Business Administration major\/ English minor from Mount Ulla, N.C.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jake Kennedy hopes to become student body president because of his passion for Gardner-Webb and its students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the people,\u201d Kennedy said. \u201cMy peers, the faculty and staff make GWU the place it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy\u2019s appreciation for the community at Gardner-Webb, fostered by its liberal arts curriculum, led him to an interest in participation in school activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got involved with both the athletic and student council, but found myself more adapted to the student side,\u201d said Kennedy.<\/p>\n<p>If elected as president, Kennedy would like engage student participation in clubs, using one of his classes as an example.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of a class of 32, five participate in a club,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to hear from students the reasons they are not involved in the 62 clubs on campus, and be a vocal leader for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy believes a student body present should be a good communicator, approachable and passionate about Gardner-Webb and its Christian and community values.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Gardner-Webb is headed in a unique direction, with a renewed sense of pride in the school,\u201d said Kennedy. \u201cI\u2019m also a champion for the discussions about making Gardner-Webb more rigorous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy is also open to ideas from students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not policy-driven, I\u2019m student-driven,\u201d he said. \u201cAny ideas that I have come about have come from discussion with other students, and have student interests in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>By Chelsea Sydnor Students have the opportunity to vote for the Student Government Association&#8217;s executive council via WebbConnect from Tuesday, March 28- Friday, March 31.
