{"id":4902,"date":"2022-02-04T11:39:14","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T16:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/?p=4902"},"modified":"2022-02-04T13:40:58","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T18:40:58","slug":"carolina-brass-band-celebrates-25th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/?p=4902","title":{"rendered":"Carolina Brass Band celebrates 25th anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/news-gwu-trumpets.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/news-gwu-trumpets-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4903\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/news-gwu-trumpets-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/news-gwu-trumpets-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/news-gwu-trumpets-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/news-gwu-trumpets-678x381.jpg 678w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/news-gwu-trumpets.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Dominika Burdova<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m., the Gardner-Webb Department of Music hosted Brass Fest featuring the Carolina Brass&#8217;s 25th Anniversary concert in Hamrick Hall&#8217;s Blanton Auditorium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The concert kicked off with a song called,<em> \u201cCarolina in the Morning\u201d<\/em> by Kahn, arranged by Arthur Frackenpohl, followed by <em>\u201cThe Phantom of the Opera\u201d<\/em> by Andrew Lloyd Webber, arranged by Jack Gale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After an intermission the band continued with the <em>\u201cTrumpet Voluntary<\/em>.&#8221; The second part of the evening was full of songs well-known for the general public while the band wrapped up the night with an outstanding version of a song <em>\u201cDon&#8217;t Stop Me Now\u201d<\/em> by Freddie Mercury, arranged by Seb Skelly, followed by <em>\u201cJust&nbsp; Closer Walk\u201d<\/em>, arranged by Don Gillis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The audience could see the top-level artists who performed throughout the whole world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of the band also serve as professors across the area, sharing their knowledge with students. We don&#8217;t have to go far to meet one &#8211; Tim Hudson is a Yamaha Performing artist and an Associate Professor of Trumpet at Gardner-Webb University. This Indiana University Alumni is a founder of Carolina Brass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robert Campbell, who is also a member of the Winston-Salem Symphony, teaches horn at multiple universities including Gardner-Webb, together with David Wulefeck, the Principal trombonist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antonio Marti, who has roots in Spain, has many orchestral experiences, including The Tokyo Symphony and JONDE (Youth Spanish National Orchestra), where he was performing among a few talented musicians playing his instrument, trumpet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday night we could also see Matt Ransom, the Principal tuba and John R. Beck, a percussionist, a former member of the United States Marine Band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next event which is going to be hosted by the Gardner-Webb Department of Music will be the spring musical \u201cQuilters\u201d, directed by Stafford Turner and conducted by Patricia Sparti.
