{"id":5494,"date":"2024-12-10T20:11:06","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T01:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/?p=5494"},"modified":"2024-12-10T20:11:07","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T01:11:07","slug":"a-look-back-at-pizza-and-politics-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/?p=5494","title":{"rendered":"A Look Back at Pizza and Politics 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Troy Berchoff, Photos Courtesy of Gardner-Webb University<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. &#8211; The Gardner-Webb College Democrats and Republicans hosted their second annual Pizza and Politics event on October 17, 2024 in Tucker Student Center\u2019s Faith Hall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event provided attending students an opportunity to ask the panelists questions about each party\u2019s views on the economy, foreign policy, and Biblical relevance in general politics among other topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the event being hosted during election season, Pizza and Politics experienced high turn out. The event featured pizza for students as well as handouts that provided students with panelist info and sample questions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5496\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434-678x509.jpg 678w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434-326x245.jpg 326w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/gwu-today.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/DSC02434.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Pizza and Politics 2024 experienced a notably high turn out.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was guided by the theme of what college students believe to be the most important issues in America. I feel that many people don\u2019t care about it and they view politics as annoying, but it\u2019s crucially important,\u201d noted Smith. Smith also pointed to the size of the clubs, which both have relatively low membership but high event turnout, as proof of this opinion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republican panelist Ted Alexander, a North Carolina state senator, described his perspective on the event. \u201cIt\u2019s important for me to hear the concerns and issues with college students.
