Getting Out, Gardner-Webb Theatre Department\u2019s last play of the fall semester, will open on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:30 pm at the Millennium Playhouse.<\/p>\n

Written by playwright Marsha Norman, Getting Out takes place in the present and in the past. The play depicts the life of a former female prisoner, Arlene, who moves into her own apartment in Kentucky; beginning her life out of prison.<\/p>\n

Arlie, Arlene\u2019s old self in prison, is also on stage demonstrating her past struggles and memories that still haunt Arlene as she tries to change her life for the better.<\/p>\n

\u201cThough written in 1977 the topic of the play is still relevant\u201d, said the director and Dean of the School of Performing Arts, Dr. Jim Thomas. \u201cIt deals with a woman\u2019s issue who\u2019s been raped, who\u2019s been mistreated, and who is\u2014in spite of this\u2014trying to make her way in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas also explained that students in Theatre Survey courses, theatre majors, theatre minors, staff, and community member volunteers are all involved in making this performance work despite a three-week-long rehearsal process.<\/p>\n

Getting Out will run in the Millennium Playhouse from November 19 to November 22 at 7:30 p.m. and November 23 at 2:30 p.m.\"Getting%20Out%20Poster\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Tickets for GWU faculty, staff, students, and children under 10 are free of charge. Non Gardner-Webb students and senior tickets cost $5, and adult tickets cost $10. Tickets can be purchased at gardner-webb.edu\/theatre-arts, email boxoffice@gardner-webb.edu<\/a>, or call (704)-406-2066.<\/p>\n
