Gardner-Webb’s Student Government Association (SGA) wants the student body to become more familiar with their faces.
Collin Helms is a senior and Parliamentarian for Student Government. He is studying Public Relations and after graduation he is planning on attending seminary in Colorado. His passion is outdoor leadership and camp ministry.
“I am the Executive Parliamentarian. This means that I am knowledgeable of Robert’s Rules of Order,” Helms said. Robert’s Rules were made to be the standard for how to conduct an effective meeting. It is Helms job to make sure that the meetings are ran properly and according to the rules.
Helms got involved in SGA because he wanted to impact Gardner-Webb and participate in the opportunities that it offered.
“I was approached by Delton Barnes, the current SGA president, two years ago about the position. I was happy to accept and was thrilled to have an opportunity to serve the student body in that way,” Helms said.
One of Helm’s favorite memories is the role that he plays in Homecoming for SGA. “This is a time of the year where our true bulldog spirit shows and I am thrilled to be a part of that experience,” Helms said.
He is proud of what SGA has done so far this semester and is excited about the growth of its presence on Gardner-Webb’s campus.
“My hope is that throughout the course of this year we will continue to make the campus more aware of who we are and what it is that we do,” Helms said.
Helms may be a government figure at Gardner-Webb, but deep down Helms said, “I am actually a huge nerd and Pokémon is still cool in my eyes.”
In his free time he likes to stay active. He enjoys running, playing racquetball, and watching movies.
GWU Student Government is awesome! Collin is my son…I’m such a proud Mom.
