BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb University recently hosted an exhibition of work by artist and adjunct professor Matthew Jones.
Jones stated that many times “paintings are put on a pedestal,” but that he wants his work to “bring them down into being these more humble, handmade things.”
His work predominantly features self-portraits and his family depicted through paintings, which Jones adds is intentional.
“What inspires me most is my family and my experiences with them. I hope that everyone can relate to them, even though they are personal images,” said Jones.
Jones’ work could be found in the Tucker Student Center’s Ali Pouryousefi Gallery from Feb. 16 through March 8, 2024.
