College students had the opportunity to enjoy the Cleveland County Fair on Wednesday, Oct.7 as part of Student Engagement’s College Night at the fair.

The special event offered free admission to college students who presented their college ID at the entrance. The promotion provided students with an opportunity to experience one of Cleveland County’s fall traditions all while saving money on admission.

The fair features a variety of attractions that included carnival rides, food vendors and live entertainment. Wednesday’s schedule included performance by UBU The Band, Cowboy Andy’s Wild West Showdown and the Ninja Experience.

For college students that are balancing classes, assignments and extracurricular activities, the fair was able to offer an opportunity to spend time with friends and enjoy a break from their usual campus routines.

Sophomore Sarah Birchall from Brisbane, Australia experienced her first county fair. She said, “I really enjoyed the range of activities and experiences for different people at the fair, and that everyone could enjoy at least one part of it. Personally, my friends and I enjoyed the rides and all the food. Having the ability to go for free influenced my decision to go!”

The fair connected local college students with a community tradition, giving them an opportunity to enjoy the fair’s attractions and entertainment without paying the regular adult admission price.

For Gardner-Webb students, the event was another opportunity to explore activities and experiences beyond campus.
