Last week, April 13-16, the Gardner-Webb Disc Golf team traveled to North Augusta, SC for the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championship Tournament. In its second year of competition, the team landed 19th place out of the 49 schools competing; an improvement over last year’s 31st place finish.

After four days of grueling competition, the team shoot a combined 621 through 11 rounds of play, good for a score of 89 under par. The team finished just 11 strokes out of 10th place, finishing higher than much larger schools such as Appalachian State, Clemson, South Carolina and Texas. Gardner-Webb was also one of only 32 schools that would advance to the finals round.

In individual action, Gardner-Webb thrower Tyler Macy was tied for 12th out of 193 competitors with a combined score of 145, good for a finish of seven under par. Chase Richards tied for 66th with a combined score of 121 in two rounds of play, good for an even par finish.

With the Top 20 finish, the Disc Golf team will look to rise in the final Innova College Disc Golf Rankings as they finished ahead of schools currently ranked higher than them, such as USC-Aiken, Alabama and Oregon State. The final rankings will be released on April 23.
