Gardner-Webb’s Baseball program will host its inaugural First Pitch Celebration this Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020. The event will feature a Q&A session with Gardner-Webb alum and Atlanta Braves pitcher Jeremy Walker.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Tucker Student Center. It will include heavy appetizers and drinks for a cost of $30.
The evening will also include the introduction of the 2020 roster and coaching staff for Gardner-Webb baseball.
Walker played for the Runnin’ Bulldogs from 2014-16, starting 30 games on the mound with 14 wins and 155 strikeouts in 181.0 innings, carrying a 4.23 ERA.
Drafted by the Braves in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB Draft, Walker was called up to Atlanta for the first time in his professional baseball career on July 24, 2019, and made his major league debut on July 26, tossing a scoreless frame against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Walker played a total of six games on the mound for the Braves in 2019, lasting 9.1 innings with six strikeouts and a 1.93 ERA.
